Housing
Housing in Niagara Region
The economic landscape has increased the price of housing and therefore rent costs as well. Affordable housing is not a current reality. Attainable housing is even difficult to achieve at this point.
Affordable and attainable housing is a multi-level government responsibility and it includes building partnerships with non-profit organizations, the business community and the building community.
Homelessness:
The City of Niagara Falls has contributed land on Park Street to build affordable housing units and has contributed a building for a “bridge” housing project to address the needs of chronically unsheltered individuals with a housing focused approach.
Currently, the City, the Region and other agencies are working together to find a viable shelter option. Lori believes that all levels of government should be investing in other permanent supports, which are more effective and sustainable.
We need to better address the cycle of poverty, mental health and homelessness.
