In recognition of Indigenous Heritage Month, I have been reading 52 Ways to Reconcile: How to Walk with Indigenous Peoples on the Path to Healing by David A. Robertson. The book offers practical, thoughtful actions that all Canadians can take to advance reconciliation and strengthen relationships with Indigenous communities.

A few lessons that stood out to me include:

📖 Learn the true history of Canada by listening to Indigenous voices and understanding the lasting impacts of residential schools and colonial policies.

🧡 Support Indigenous artists, authors, and businesses by amplifying Indigenous creativity, entrepreneurship, and cultural expression in our communities.

🤝 Build meaningful relationships based on respect, listening, and a willingness to learn from Indigenous Peoples and their lived experiences.

🌱 Take action in your community by participating in Indigenous-led events, learning opportunities, and initiatives that promote understanding and reconciliation.

Reconciliation is not a destination—it is an ongoing commitment to learning, listening, and acting with respect. During Indigenous Heritage Month, I encourage everyone to explore Indigenous stories, perspectives, and contributions that continue to enrich our community and our country.
